Character Name: David Judah Goldsmith
Gender: Male
House: Ravenclaw
Year: 5
Age at start and birthday (without year): 16, September 15
Ancestry (Including blood, family members, and heritage): He’d a muggle-born wizard from a very strict conservative Jewish family and the oldest son of Moishe and Rebecca Goldsmith. His two younger siblings show no signs of being magical, but one of his cousins graduated from Hogwarts the year he entered, as well there being proof that his great-grandfather was a wizard.
Played-by: Jean-Baptiste Maunier
Prefect/Head (optional): Nope
Quidditch position (optional): Not a good idea, no
Interesting/random facts (like pets, friends, hobbies, pet peeves, etc.): David is a nerd. He’s more likely to be found with his nose in a book and his butt in the library than anywhere. This is compounded by being a klutz beyond measure. But he’s curious. He wants to know everything because, if he knows everything, he’ll figure out why he doesn’t exactly get along with other people. His curiosity is what brings him out of the library and into the rest of the world.
Tending to be very awkward around people and animals, David turned down any pets he might have brought with him and instead relies on using the school owl or just waiting until breaks to tell people what’s going on. He’s mildly allergic to cats, thinks rats have the most disgusting tails ever and, after dissecting several owl pellets, has decided he doesn’t want a pet he has to feed other animals.
As a strict and observant Jew (despite his magical abilites) David follows all the practices, from eating kosher to saying the shema to being able to read/write Hebrew fluently. He takes off holy days even if teachers won’t give him permission and struggles not to upset at people who don’t know much about Judaism. He also speaks Yiddush and will sometimes speak to himself in that language to keep other people from understanding. This might work as ploy but isn’t the most polite thing. Nor does it typically help him get along with people, as the difficulties of someone talking to themselves are fairly obvious.
He’s very shy and unsure of himself around people, despite his obsessive research regarding interpersonal relationships. It just doesn’t make a lot of sense to him and he often crawls back to his book after what he considers another failed attempt at talking to people. He’s had very few friends and lost most of them when he started going to Hogwarts. Living in a boarding school didn’t help him learn social skills and now, at 15, the struggle is really starting.
(An RP character. David is mine, but Harry Potter and Jean-Baptiste Maunier are not.)
